Delegation
Definition of Delegation:
Delegation in leadership refers to the act of assigning tasks and responsibilities to others within a team or organization. It is an essential skill for effective leadership as it allows leaders to distribute workload, empower team members, and enhance productivity. When delegating, the key is to ensure that expectations are well-defined, essential resources are available, assistance and guidance are present throughout the process, and ongoing progress is carefully tracked. Delegation not only helps leaders manage their own time and focus on strategic decision-making but also promotes growth and development among team members by providing opportunities for them to take ownership of tasks and showcase their abilities.
Delegations Contribution to My Leadership Abilities:
The Delegative style of leadership, also known as laisse-faire leadership, that I learned in OGL 200: Introduction to Organizational Leadership has greatly contributed to my own leadership abilities. This style focuses on giving individuals autonomy and allowing them to make decisions independently, while still offering guidance and support when needed. By incorporating this style into my own leadership approach, I have been able to foster a sense of trust and empowerment among team members. They feel valued and respected for their skills and expertise, which in turn enhances their motivation and productivity. This skill and style have not always come easy to me as I had to develop more of this skill and learn to give some of the responsibility over to others. Once I was able to fully understand this style, I was able to focus on higher-level tasks and strategic planning, as I am confident that my team is capable of handling day-to-day operations effectively. Overall, the delegative style has not only improved my ability to lead others but has also created a positive work environment where everyone feels empowered and motivated to contribute their best.

Delegation Artifact:
The competency artifact that best showcases my skills and abilities within the dimensions of delegation would be the assignment titled "Module 2_ Leadership Survey" from my OGL 200 Intro to Org Leadership with Dr. Jessica Hirshorn. This assignment required me to take a leadership survey that assessed my leadership skills which included my delegation skills and provided feedback on areas for improvement. The results of the survey indicated that I possess the ability to have strong delegation skills. Once developed I would then be able to perfect my ability to assign tasks effectively, provide clear instructions, and trust others to complete their assigned responsibilities. This survey highlights my competence in delegating tasks and shows how I can effectively distribute workload among team members while maintaining accountability and fostering collaboration. It demonstrates my understanding of the importance of delegation in achieving organizational goals and emphasizes my ability to empower others by entrusting them with important responsibilities. Overall, this artifact serves as evidence of my movement to include more delegation in my leadership and exemplifies my commitment to effective leadership practices.
